    <directions>Chill the pears in the refrigerator beforehand for best results.

Drain the water or syrup from the pear halves.

Place one or two pear halves each into small plates or bowls.

Place a dollop of mayonnaise, approximately 1 tablespoon per pear half, into the cavity left where the pit was removed. The mayonnaise should be slightly mounded out.

Sprinkle shredded cheddar over mayonnaise and pears and serve.

You may wish to try substitutine cottage cheese, sour cream, plain yogurt, or creme fraiche for the mayonnaise.</directions>
